Alexis (Allie) Blue Heeler Adult Female in Denver, Colorado

My story
Alexis (AKA "Allie") is a small (only 30 pounds) adult heeler mix rescued from Gallup, New Mexico, likely from the Navajo reservation lands. We don't know how old she is, but she may be between 3 and 6 years old. Allie was abandoned at the shelter in March of 2021. She has been in foster in Colorado with several other adult dogs (3 full-time residents + other foster dogs rotating in and out of the home) since late March, and she has made great improvements from when she first arrived, shut down and terrified of everything. Even so, Allie is still building her confidence about people, and her ideal forever home is with a person or family with great patience, previous experience with cattle dogs/heelers, and a strong desire to give this little girl a great life, to make up for whatever trauma she's experienced in her past.Allie loves walks with her people (she doesn't like being left behind). And she loves snacks and food. Despite Allie's desire to be "part of the pack" and her strong food motivation, her foster people still need to leash her up in the safety of a crate... Allie doesn't yet have the confidence to willingly come to her fosters to have a leash clipped to her collar to go for the daily walk that she desperately wants to go on. This may simply be a factor of there being too much excitement in the foster household at walkies time (five to six dogs all raring to go out the front door has its drawbacks). Also, if Allie is left at home, her foster people have confirmed that she eventually (after five minutes or so) settles on a sofa and sleeps or just quietly watches out the window for her people to return (witnessed via a remote video camera).Allie isn't a huge fan of being petted (yet; we're working on it) but she can be petted when she's in the "safety" of a crate. Allie is definitely NOT a snuggle dog. BUT, just in the last week, Allie has started to opt to sleep on the fosters' king-sized bed at night (she used to always choose to sleep in a crate or by herself on a sofa or dog bed). Which is a great sign! And, Allie is totally okay with being brushed (with a Furminator brush)... she can be lured into position with the help of a leash (and dog snacks) but once the grooming started, she relaxes a bit and the leash can be removed... and she then stayed in place for many minutes until the brushing was complete. And then she got petted after that: VIDEO: https://youtu.be/cBHy8mDZDEU So, there is definitely hope for this dog becoming normalized and being happy to receive physical affection from humans!Allie is spayed, microchipped, up to date on her shots (including rabies of course), house trained, crate trained, dog-door trained, and leash trained. As mentioned before, her ideal foster family would be one who has experience with heelers/cattle dogs and with rehabilitating a rescue animal. Also, because of her personality and her instincts as a heeler, Allie is a *trip and fall hazard* for any people with mobility or balance challenges. She likes to be right next to your legs (some would say "underfoot") and she moves very quickly, so where she is now is not a great predictor of where she will be half a second from now. Additionally, because small children (under the age of 12) tend to make sudden movements, speak loudly, and have trouble remembering to be consistently calm and predictable around nervous animals, Allie is not recommended for a home with children under the age of 12 (all applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis). If you'd like to meet little Allie in Longmont, CO, to see if you're up to the challenge of gaining her trust and extracting the loving, calm, content, and extremely loyal dog inside her out of its shell; and to consider whether Allie-Allie-Oxen-Free could be your perfect forever friend, please submit an adoption application to RezDawg Rescue today!##1042746##
