Hope's story
Hope is currently in our care.  Foster mom says;  Hope is one of the infamous Hudson 4 dogs of South Texas, a bonded family of four dogs that were rescued from a semi-busy dirt road last summer. These four abandoned dogs were discovered and posted on social media by a concerned animal lover who was kind enough to leave them food and fresh water. When we found them they literally ran to our vehicle. They were living among trash not more than 5 feet from this dirt road. Hope along with Hunter, who is theorized to be her son, was one of three of the dogs found limping when rescued. Aside from needing vaccines and being heartworm positive, which she has been treated for with the Fast Act method, it turned out Hope had extensive damage to her back legs, possibly requiring multiple surgeries to fix the incorrectly healing bones and extensive scar tissue of both back legs. She was presumed to have been hit by multiple passing cars several times and had obviously been left on the side of the road to fend for herself. It appears aside from throwing scraps of food out of car windows as people briefly stopped, the occasional toy, and filling their nearby bucket with the occasional bottle of water, no one had rendered any further help to any of them, thus leaving them to ultimately fend for themselves and possibly die from their injuries and inability to run away from any potential predators in the scorching heat of deep South Texas. With the help of generous donations and a raffle organized by a local rescuer, Hope, along with her 2 other companions that had also been hit by cars were able to get their much needed surgeries. Hope required a FHO surgery to fix her left back leg impairment that had already started healing incorrectly long before being rescued. She managed to improve her ability to walk after the first FHO surgery and because of the extensive scar tissue removed from the initial surgery, the vet felt further surgery would hinder her ability to walk rather than help. Therefore, no further surgeries were performed. The vet was happy to report that Hope has significantly improved her ability to walk better after her FHO surgery. She will need some continued physical therapy to help her improve walking over time on her previously impaired left back leg due to the old and new scar tissue from her surgery. She is still able to run and play like any typical dog despite her leg impairment.  She has been waiting years for her forever home. Despite managing to survive the harsh elements of the South Texas heat with little food and scarce clean water, she is a very sweet and loving girl. She loves to cuddle and lay at your feet, loves to go on walks, enjoys car rides, and playing with other big dogs, she will chase after the ball and even ducks at the pond at the park. She appears happiest when she is close to you at your feet, as if knowing as long as she is near you she is safe and loved tonight. We have worked long and hard with Hope to help get her healthy and stronger, we would love to get occasional updates.

The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up at our Lakewood Petco adoption events, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.  A dog on PENDING status means the dog is still en route to our rescue but is scheduled to arrive very soon.  A dog on AVAILABLE status means the dog is currently in our care.
